I have always maintained, and still do, that links pages are a bit naff (they often look to me like blatant attempts to pretend that the writer is some kind of web expert, and/or has an actual life). On the other hand, I have to grudgingly admit that I have gotten some good material out of browsing the links pages of friends of mine, and also that my list of outside publications is getting a bit too long for the main index.
