Want to find out more about
the shows/films mentioned here other than that Maurice Colbourne was in them? Or
do you want to know what else is out there about the man? The following is the
highlights of what you get when you go to a decent search engine, type in
"maurice+colbourne," and edit out a couple of dozen Canadian blokes' personal
pages. Aren't you glad I've saved you the trouble?
NOTE: the MCBPA bears no responsibility for the contents of external sites. OK, that's an obvious thing to say, but
apparently there really are people out there who'd hold us responsible for other people's opinions if we didn't say it. It's a strange world.
Doctor Who Image
Archive: Back with us after too long an absence, this site is
the classic source for Doctor Who publicity pictures and screen
captures, and the source for the lovely (??) pictures of Maurice Colbourne on
this site (except for the one above, nicked from the now-sadly-defunct uk.media.tv.sf.drwho homepage). Look for him in
the section on the amateur film
"Reign of
Turner" as well--ironically, he doesn't have a bit part, he is
a bit part.
Doctor Who Reference Guide: You mean you don't know about
Doctor Who? For shame! This is the most comprehensive guide I've yet to find on
the Web. Or click on the titles to find out about "Attack of the Cybermen" or "Resurrection of the Daleks". You might also like to check
out the reviews of Resurrection and Attack on the BBC's official Doctor Who website.
Gangsters: You mean you don't know about Gangsters? Well,
you've got more of an excuse than for not knowing about Doctor Who.
Day of the Triffids: The novel, surely, needs no
introduction-- but this is a nice online review of the
BBC serial, which incidentally says some rather
complimentary things about Colbourne's performance.
BBC Cult Vault's Day of the Triffids Page:
Formerly part of their brief-overview-of-all-cult-telly section, BBC Cult Vault celebrates the release of Day of the Triffids on DVD by giving it its very own page. Unfortunately, they haven't really added much to it (though they've given Maurice a whole two sentences on the trivia page now), and the clips are just the same Colbourne-less ones they've had on there since 2001. If you haven't seen it, though, it's worth a quick shuftie.
Howards' Way Title Credits: The BBC's cult-tv site also has a RealVideo clip of the beginning of the Howards' Way title credits, and a tiny bit about the show (to expand into a page later, we hope?). Check out those big boats... and those lovely jackets... and how'd they get a blue sky over Southampton? Special effects?
TV Cream Themes Page: Their reviews of classic TV shows are, erm, not the most accurate, but they do have
MP3s of the theme tunes of many of the
TV shows mentioned here, even
the really obscure ones. Their recording of the "Gangsters" theme even
contains a dialogue clip.
Internet Movie Database Listing for Maurice Colbourne (II):
A good filmography, although I'm pretty sure they've mixed him up with Maurice Dale Colbourne once or
twice. Still, they do better on that score than a lot of printed filmographies,
to say nothing of the Internet ones.
Guardian Obituary: How kind-- a Doctor Who fan who
collects clippings has made this contemporary obituary available to the world.
The picture has been tentatively identified as being from Colbourne's Gangsters days, but
don't quote me on it.
BBC Day of the Triffids: OK, I don't like linking to commercial pages, and you really should buy this at your local SF dealership, but for those of you who can't be arsed, here it is on Amazon.co.uk. The Littlest Horse Thieves, released in 1999, is now out of print, but you might still be able to find it if you look around. Resurrection of the Daleks has been out for a while now, and contains a behind-the-scenes effects clip which shows how they did the vanishing-policemen trick with Maurice. Serious completists can also go for Cry of the Banshee and Hawk the Slayer.
